A refuge for the age of intelligence.
Most of what we teach machines ends up owned by someone else. Asraya is building the ARK: a shared memory that stays with the people who fill it, and outlasts them.
DescendIntelligence is everywhere. What is scarce now is us.
In this age the machine is no longer the rare thing. What is rare is living human context: what people know, practise and value. Today it flows one way, out of us and into systems we do not own, trained on our attention, our patterns and our voices.
आश्रय is an ancient word for an ancient need: the ground a people stands on, and the shelter that keeps its Swarajya, its self-rule.
Asraya exists to prove that intelligence can circulate without being harvested.
Years in the field. An architecture built. Now, the test.
It began in March 2020. In the stillness of a stopped world, in the hills above Perth, a blueprint came through whole, and with it the name. Asraya did not start with a platform. It started in the field.
- 2020 to 2024ResearchGatherings in the room and online, hundreds of conversations in the field, and years of study into what holds a community together, and what breaks it. 144 founding citizens.
- 2025 to 2026DesignThe protocol drawn up: how contribution, review, credit and trust work. The first agents prototyped: the Quest, the Oracle, the Guardian. A living map of the network.
- 2026BuildThe architecture built, and tested every day by Nikhil Kale and a small group of builders. The trust promises written. The first form of Asraya completed, and its lessons kept.
- NowTesting We are hereThe architecture in use with a first circle. The door open for the ARK's first crew.
- NextThe first collaborative testA small crew contributes, reviews and builds on each other's work, by hand.

What the first form taught us
- What we found together was real. Between gatherings it drained away, because nothing had been built to hold it.
- A refuge held by one hand has one point of failure.
- Open is not enough. A commons without curation becomes a crowd.
The ARK is being loaded.
The ARK is the shared library our members will fill: tools, rituals, frameworks and research, owned by the people who make them and curated by stewards. Nikhil Kale is the first steward, until the council forms.
It rests on an architecture that already runs: a personal system each builder owns, in daily use by a small group. The shared layer, where what members choose to give is credited, curated and kept, is what the first collaborative test will try.

Next, a small crew seeds the ARK by hand. When their work goes public, the gangway opens with it. Every hand raised here is read by a steward.
Before you raise a hand, four promises hold
- Yours. What you bring stays yours. Contributing never transfers ownership.
- Withdrawable. You can take your work out of the ARK's future use, whenever you choose.
- Never sold. Nothing you make is sold or made public without your consent.
- Never watched. No agent surveils you, and no story about you is told without your consent.
